Slovenian Survey Data
A questionnaire will be designed to measure climate literacy (CL) among young people and adults in Slovenia. The validated Slovenian CL measurement instrument will be used on four target groups: young people at the end of primary school, secondary school students, university students, and adults. There is a lack of research in Slovenia and globally that examines the reliability, validity, and predictive power of CL measurement instruments and systematically validates these instruments in target populations.
Analysis of Curricula and Teaching Materials
In Slovenia, there is a shortage of research focusing on the analysis of curricula and textbooks at the primary, secondary, and tertiary education levels. This involves content analysis using mixed methods. Such analyses are often conducted abroad to study curricula and textbooks, including in relation to climate change, as they provide relevant information on the content that students learn and internalise in the educational process. This type of analysis provides key information that helps understand the level of climate change comprehension presented in education to pupils, students, and whether it allows them to develop climate literacy and what might need to be changed for a better understanding of climate topics.
Secondary Data Analysis
The project includes a secondary analysis of existing and publicly available data from representative national survey samples. Secondary data will provide a basis for analysing the levels and determinants of CL over the last thirty years. Additionally, we will analyse recurring cross-sectional survey data of the Slovenian population (Slovenian Public Opinion and Slovenian Youth surveys). Using available international survey data, we will also examine the factors of CL and PEB concerning a) macro (national) factors (e.g., socioeconomic development) and micro (individual) factors (e.g., demographic and socioeconomic determinants).
